Athletic Policy
Parent/Guardian Responsibility

Signing my child up for athletics will serve as my public acknowledgment of my unconditional agreement with each standard contained in the below Boys and Girls Club of Lebanon Athletic Policy.

Code of Ethics

Parents set the example for their child's future view of the world. The Club requires all parents to embrace the Code of Ethics.

I hereby pledge to provide positive support, care, and encouragement for my child participating in youth sports by following this Parents’ Code of Ethics:

  • I will lead by example and display positive sportsmanship for all players, coaches, and officials at every game, practice or other youth sports event.
  • I will place the emotional and physical well being of my child ahead of my personal desire to win.
  • I will insist that my child play in a safe and healthy environment.
  • I will not make negative comments about the game officials, coaches, or players because I understand that negative comments are destructive and will only result in damaging a child’s motivation and ruining their athletic experience.
  • I will support a sports environment for my child that is free from drugs, tobacco and alcohol and will refrain from their use at all youth sports events.
  • I will remember that the game is for youth - not adults.
  • I will understand that my child plays sports to have fun, make friends, and to learn new skills, therefore I will praise effort as well as implementation in order to keep sports in the correct perspective.
  • I will ask my child to treat other players, coaches, fans and officials with respect regardless of race, sex, creed or ability.

Team Formation

Elementary School Sports Team Formation:

Teams are divided by school, gender and grade level. If the school has enough participants for multiple teams, then it is up to the Athletic Director which children go on what team. We will make every effort to place participants at their school of origin. If this is not possible, participants may be placed on a team outside of their school. Priority, in terms of playing at their home school, will be given to those that register first.

Middle School Sports Team Formation:

The majority of our middle school sports (Volleyball, basketball, baseball) have a travel league and a recreation league. Particpants tryout for the travel teams and those teams will consist of players for various schools. The particpants that do not make the travel team are placed on a recreation team. If there are more than one recreation team for a paticular sport, those particpants will be spilt evenly to ensure the fairest possible teams. Where they attend school will not factor in to what team they are placed on. For sports that do not have a travel team (Indoor soccer and softball), particpants will be divided up based upon where they attend school.

Coaching:

We rely on volunteer coaches who give their time and expertise to work with children through our program. Volunteer coaches are needed at many schools and at many grade levels. Coaches must apply at the Boys & Girls Club, pass a criminal background check and attend a mandatory Coaches Clinic. We appreciate all of our volunteer coaches!
