Programs Garden Club

Garden Club is in its third season, and growing strong!

vegetable_gardenLocated at The Boys & Girls Club of Lebanon, Garden Club gives kids get the opportunity to get their hands dirty and get in touch with nature. Participants learn about the various plants, work in the garden, plant seeds and do some weeding (YAY!).  When the plants produce vegetables Club participants get to harvest them... and then the real fun begins.

In the kitchen, we prepair the veggies in various healthy ways. Some of the kids have never tasted the things we grow before.  We always encourage them to taste everything once. Some members surprise themselves when they like it!

What's in store...tomato

Raised beds have helped us to develop healthier soil (less compaction, better drainage), give us better access to our plants and allow us to better to control the weeds. They have also allow us to plant earlier, as they warm up faster than the surrounding ground.

Eventually, our dream is to get a full green house constructed. With a greenhouse the gardening can start even sooner (somethings we can even grow year-round), and will give us the ability to grow warmer weather plants!
